Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Hacienda? It’s tucked away on Cleveland Street in a way that feels almost accidental – like someone just decided to put a hotel in this slightly industrial corner of Chippendale and somehow made it work. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from Central Station (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t mind the slight uphill trek), but it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The building itself has this weathered charm that’s very Sydney – not trying too hard to impress, just solid and unpretentious.
The rooms are honestly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, nothing fancy but everything works. I actually appreciated that they didn’t try to overdo the décor – clean lines, decent bed, and the air conditioning actually keeps up with Sydney’s summer heat (which, let’s be real, is half the battle). The bathrooms are compact but functional, and here’s something I noticed – the water pressure is surprisingly good for an older building. You can hear the trains occasionally since you’re not far from the rail corridor, but it’s more of a gentle rumble than anything disruptive. Actually reminded me why I love this city – there’s always this subtle urban hum that just feels alive.
What really makes this place work though is the location specifics that most hotel descriptions gloss over. You’re a short walk to White Rabbit Gallery if you’re into contemporary art, and honestly, some of the best Vietnamese food in Sydney is right around the corner on Cleveland Street. The staff seemed to get this too – they’re locals who actually know the neighborhood, not just trained to point toward the Opera House. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to inner Sydney), but there’s usually street parking if you’re patient, and the hotel can point you toward a couple of reliable spots. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. If you want to stay somewhere that feels connected to actual Sydney life rather than the tourist bubble, and you don’t need marble bathrooms or a rooftop pool, Hotel Hacienda does the job really well.

Reviews
I would stay here again because of the location. – Philip from Australia – 11 July 2025 (8/10)
Clean, shower was hot and hard. Great location.
What could be improved: Once you got used to the trains it was fine. But I knew where the hotel was situated so l’m not going to complain about the train noise.Good for a little getaway. – Dana from Australia – 10 July 2025 (8/10)
Close to everything so we were able to get around easy.
What could be improved: Room was a little too small and I could here a baby screaming at 2amAustralia has great skies and pubblic transport, we hád a great vacation – Thị from Vietnam – 9 July 2025 (7/10)
the room is tiny but clean, the receptionist was not enthusiastic, they seemed a bit uncomfortable rêciving Asian gúets like me
What could be improved: RECEPTIONISTVery good – Tamieka from Australia – 10 June 2025 (8/10)
The room is always very clean, cozy and everything you need. The reception staff are always very helpful and friendly'
What could be improved: I think Security might be a good idea, there were some hotel guests (I think) that were yelling around or arguing a lot on the floor I was on in the public space, not in their room, unsure of what they were arguing about or where from, but it was getting very heated and didn't want to leave my room because of it.Good – Shaw from Australia – 6 June 2025 (7/10)
The hotel is good value for money. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. This is what I look for.
What could be improved: The noise from passing trains didn't bother me too much but it might bother those sensitive to noise.lovely stay, close to shops and a fabulous treed street a 3minute walk. – Miss from Australia – 23 May 2025 (8/10)
great location,very clean comfy bed.
What could be improved: nothing to dislikeVery good – Skye from Australia – 11 May 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Train line is directly outside but the noise wasn't too bad
Good – Paul from Australia – 6 May 2025 (7/10)
Convenient location
What could be improved: Size of rooms, but not unexpected, so okVery suitable for my simple purposes – John from Australia – 5 May 2025 (8/10)
Convenient, attached secure parking.
What could be improved: The blockout blind in room 217 was inoperable so traffic headlights played on the ceiling and walls all night which was a little disturbing. I suggest a small chair would serve better than the table – if carefully selected for both functions of sitting and bedside table. 🙂Very good – Layla from Australia – 7 April 2025 (8/10)
Neat and tidy, the staff were very helpful, especially the staff member who checked me in.
