Holiday Inn Parramatta, an IHG Hotel
First Impressions
Walking into Holiday Inn Parramatta, an IHG Hotel, I was honestly surprised by how polished everything felt for what I’d expected to be a standard business hotel. The lobby has this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard — you know what I mean? It’s clearly a five-star property, and you can tell from the moment you step inside. The staff actually seemed to recognize returning guests, which makes sense given that this place apparently has way more repeat visitors than most hotels in the area.
Location & Getting Around
The location on Anderson Street is honestly pretty brilliant if you’re trying to balance being close to Sydney’s action without paying CBD prices. Parramatta has really come into its own lately — it’s got this whole business district vibe during the day, but it’s not dead at night like some suburban areas. You’re about 25 minutes by train to Central Station, and the Parramatta station is maybe a 10-minute walk. There’s parking available at the hotel too, which is actually a big deal if you’re driving around Sydney (trust me on this one).
The Room Experience
My room was on the eighth floor with a decent view of the Parramatta River — nothing spectacular, but pleasant enough. The space felt bigger than typical Holiday Inn rooms I’ve stayed in, with a proper work desk that’s actually usable and blackout curtains that work. The bed was comfortable, though I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind or anything. What I appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, plenty of power outlets, and a bathroom that didn’t feel cramped.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast buffet here is actually pretty comprehensive — they’ve got continental options, full English breakfast, vegetarian choices, and American-style items all laid out. I was impressed by the quality, honestly. The eggs weren’t that sad, rubbery hotel breakfast standard, and they had proper coffee, not just the instant stuff. The restaurant area gets busy around 7:30 AM with business travelers, so if you’re not an early riser, you might want to time it differently.
Why Guests Love It
What really stands out about this place is how it manages to feel both professional and welcoming — couples seem to particularly love it here, rating the location almost 9 out of 10. I can see why, actually. You get that luxury hotel experience without the stuffiness, and Parramatta itself has some decent restaurants and bars within walking distance. The fact that so many people come back tells you something about the consistency of the experience. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in Sydney, but it delivers on what it promises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
