Holiday Inn Express Sydney Macquarie Park by IHG Overview
You know what really struck me about this Holiday Inn Express in Macquarie Park? It’s one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. I mean, when you’re staying out in Sydney’s north shore business district, you’re not exactly expecting boutique charm – but this place actually has some personality to it, which honestly surprised me.
The location on Byfield Street is pretty clever if you think about it. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Macquarie University (perfect if you’re visiting for graduation or campus tours), and the Macquarie Shopping Centre is right there when you need groceries or just want to grab something decent to eat. What I really appreciated though was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being near the university would mean noise, but the street itself is tucked away enough that you won’t hear much after 10pm. The train station is about a 10-minute walk, maybe 15 if you’re dragging luggage, and honestly that’s not bad at all for getting into the city. Takes about 25 minutes to reach Martin Place, which beats driving in Sydney traffic any day.
The rooms themselves feel fresh – not that sterile corporate hotel vibe you sometimes get with chain places. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. Check-in was smooth when I arrived around 3pm on a Thursday, no drama there. The breakfast situation is pretty solid too – it’s not just sad continental stuff, they’ve got hot options and the coffee doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting there since dawn. I noticed they keep the lobby area buzzing but not overwhelming, lots of business travelers and families mixing without it feeling chaotic. Parking was straightforward, which honestly is worth mentioning because Sydney can be a nightmare for that. The staff seemed to know the area well too – when I asked about getting to Chatswood for dinner, the guy at the front desk gave me specific train times and restaurant recommendations that were actually good, not just tourist traps. The whole place maintains that 4-star standard without feeling stuffy about it, and with an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people. If you’re staying in this part of Sydney for business meetings in the tech corridor or just want a reliable base that’s not in the city center chaos, this place makes a lot of sense.

Very good – Juanita from Australia – 6 July 2025 (8/10)
Comfy beds, breakfast was great, plenty of undercover parking.
What could be improved: Stayed on the first floor just above reception, was a bit noisy from revellers coming in late – but I am a light sleeper.Superb – Paul from Australia – 25 June 2025 (9/10)
Check in was simple, parking convenient, rooms spotless and modern and the breakfast was great.

Breakfast was good and the location was perfect for access to Macquarie University. Comfortable room, but terrible choices on TV.
What could be improved: The staff were difficult. I needed a receipt for work, and they refused to give me receipt because I booked through booking.com. Very frustrating!! They were polite at check in though.Very good – Molly from Australia – 22 June 2025 (8/10)

Hidden gem 💎 – Natasha from Australia – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
Very clean and staff were super friendly and helpful…beds were amazing as where the pillows… will be high on my list of recommendations and to stay again, the one and only complaint would be that there was no exhaust fan at all in our bathroom/bedroom and a small microwave would be highly appreciated in the rooms…🫶😁👍🏻
Pampered – Christine from Australia – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
The finishes on all the amenities
The linen , bathroom toiletries, the tea ond coffee facilities.
I particularly liked the Soft and Firm pillow choice and the fact that I was trusted not to steal the coat hangers.
The breakfast was one of the best buffets I have had at any hotel recently including those I had to pay extra for
What could be improved: I’m not very good on my legs so the walk from the railway station wasn’t the bestVery good – Stephen from Australia – 9 June 2025 (8/10)
Great food, great location
What could be improved: The bed was very hard and uncomfortable the shower was cold and shower floor was very slippery
