Hotel Description
You know that feeling when you stumble onto something that’s actually too good to be true? That’s exactly what happened when I first walked into Hideaway Haven on Clyde Street. I mean, the name sounds a bit precious – “The Cute Place To Put Up Your Feet” – but honestly, it delivers on that promise in ways I wasn’t expecting from a five-star place.
The location is what really got me excited. Clyde Street runs parallel to the main Bondi drag, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach but tucked away from all the backpacker chaos that Campbell Parade can turn into, especially during summer weekends. I stayed here in March (which is perfect timing if you ask me – still warm, but the January crowds have cleared out), and every morning I’d grab coffee from the little place around the corner on Glenayr Avenue, then cut through to the beach via the path everyone seems to know about except tourists. The staff actually told me about that shortcut during check-in, which was refreshingly helpful rather than just handing over key cards and pointing toward the elevator.
What struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being stuffy. The rooms have this sort of effortless elegance – think linen everything, those chunky knit throws that actually keep you warm, and windows that open properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is in fancy hotels). I could hear the ocean from my room, not traffic, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re still in the heart of Bondi. The bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent pressure, and they stock proper toiletries, not those tiny bottles that run out after one use.
Here’s the thing though – parking is a bit of a nightmare around there, like everywhere in Bondi, so I’d definitely recommend the valet service if you’re driving. It’s worth the extra cost just for the peace of mind. The breakfast situation is genuinely excellent too, with locally sourced everything and coffee that doesn’t taste like hotel coffee, if you know what I mean. They do this thing with house-made granola and yogurt from a dairy about an hour south that honestly made me look forward to getting up early.
The whole place has this relaxed but polished vibe that feels authentically Sydney rather than generically upscale. Staff actually seem to live in the area and can give you proper recommendations – not just the obvious tourist spots, but places like the Sunday markets at Bondi Beach Public School or the best fish and chips that locals actually eat (it’s not where you think). I ended up extending my stay by two nights because, well, why would you leave? That 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it’s the result of getting all the little things right that make you feel like you’ve found something special rather than just booked a room.

Michael was a lovely host – the room had everything and more you could need with the little kitchenette. Comfy bed, clean space, nice view at the top of the hill. 15 minute walk to the beach. Thank you so much for having us – we had a lovely time!

Michael is an amazing host, we can highly recommend staying in one of his apartments.
For a relaxing getaway, it's definitely worth staying at Bondi Lockdown Retreat. – Rosanna from Australia – 15 February 2023 (8/10)
Lovely location, beautiful views and modern home. Friendly and respectable hosts and it was a quiet, peaceful room. The beach is a short walk away. Restaurants are amazing. I found car parking on the street everyday with no issue. The bed and pillows were comfy, air con was awesome and the coffee machine was very useful for me in the mornings. The cost for the stay was very affordable given the beautiful location and proximity to everything.
What could be improved: The cleanliness of the room was okay. I took my shoes off and noticed the floor was sandy and had visible hairs in the bedroom and shower on arrival from previous woman. Michael offered to have the room cleaned again by the cleaner and apologised, but I preferred to clean these few things myself.Really enjoyed our stay , We had everything we needed and Michael looked after us very well. Would definitely recommend. – Catherine from United Kingdom – 30 January 2023 (10/10)

First of all, the owner of the apartment, Michael. He helped us with everything we needed and was incredibly nice with us.
And second the apartment itself, very cozy and clean, and in an incredible location. It had everything we needed, it was even better than in the pictures.very cosy room with an amazing view just around the corner, perfect to come back to after exploring Bondi beach! – Hannah from Australia – 24 November 2022 (10/10)
the best thing about this Airbnb was Michael! he was so accomodating for my friend and I and made sure we had everything we would ever need for our stay. the room was very cosy, just right to relax at the end of the day!
What could be improved: there is nothing that we didn’t like about the property personally! however I would say that the steps to the property might be hard for some people to go up and down, but obviously that is not something that can be changed, but just for future people staying to know 🙂Could not believe but sure it was nothing short of a halfway house – Tom from Australia – 31 March 2025 (5/10)
