Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Garden Lodge Sydney Hotel on Parramatta Road, I wasn’t expecting much. The street’s pretty busy (you know how Parramatta Road is), but once you’re inside, it’s actually a pleasant surprise. The place has this understated charm that grows on you, especially if you’re not looking for some flashy five-star experience but want something solid and genuine.

What I really appreciate about this spot is how it feels like it belongs in Haberfield. The staff actually know the neighborhood – they’ll point you toward the best Italian joints on Ramsay Street (seriously, the cannoli at that little place near the corner is incredible), and they’re not just rattling off tourist traps. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a 3.5-star place, but they’re done thoughtfully. Clean lines, decent beds, and the windows actually open properly – which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels mess that up. The air conditioning works without sounding like a freight train, though the street-facing rooms do pick up some traffic noise during rush hour. Not terrible, just something to mention if you’re a super light sleeper.

The breakfast situation is better than it needs to be, honestly. They’ve got this little setup that’s not trying to be fancy but hits the right notes – proper coffee (not that instant stuff), fresh fruit that actually tastes like fruit, and they make decent eggs. There’s parking on-site which is a godsend because finding a spot on Parramatta Road can be a nightmare, especially during the week. The whole area’s got this authentic Sydney suburban vibe that I actually prefer to staying right in the CBD madness – you’re still only about 15 minutes to the city center, but you get to see how people actually live here. Plus, Haberfield’s got some of the best food in Sydney if you know where to look, and the hotel folks definitely know where to look. The 7.3 rating feels about right to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything well without any major complaints. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to explore the inner west properly rather than just hitting the usual tourist spots.

  It was a very good experience, it was clean and tidy and a large room. The staff was lovely they let us check in early and if the room wasn’t going to be ready they were going to let us leave our bags there which is amazing!!!!
