Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Fancy 4 BR House” in the listing, I rolled my eyes a bit. But you know what? This place on Quarry Street actually lives up to the name, at least for what it is. It’s one of those converted terrace houses that Sydney does so well, tucked into Ultimo where you get that perfect sweet spot between the city buzz and actually having space to breathe.

The location is really what makes this work. You’re literally eight minutes from Darling Harbour if you walk at a normal pace (I timed it), and honestly, that walk takes you right through some of the most interesting parts of Ultimo. You’ll pass the old ABC building – now all fancy apartments – and cut through that little park area that most tourists never see. The ICC is right there too, which is clutch if you’re in town for an event. I mean, you could probably hear the big concerts from the house if you’re on the upper floors, but it’s never been disruptively loud when I’ve stayed there. The neighborhood itself has this great mix of longtime locals and young professionals, so you get proper cafes (there’s this Vietnamese place two blocks down that does incredible pho) without the tourist markup you’d pay closer to the harbor.

What struck me about the house is how they’ve managed to make four bedrooms actually feel spacious rather than cramped. The layout flows well – you’re not bumping into each other trying to get to the bathroom in the morning. The parking situation is genuinely a lifesaver; anyone who’s driven in Sydney knows what a nightmare it can be to find a spot, especially around Darling Harbour. Here you just pull up and you’re done. The kitchen is well-equipped too – not just the basics, but actually functional for cooking real meals, which saved us a fortune during our week there. The furnishing is comfortable without being fancy, sort of like staying at a friend’s place who has their life together. The WiFi is solid (worked great for video calls), and there’s decent natural light throughout, especially in the morning. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but everything works, it’s clean, and the value is there. Three stars might seem modest, but honestly, for a house rental rather than a hotel, the star system doesn’t quite apply the same way. If you’re traveling with a group or family and want that home-base feeling while still being walking distance to everything Sydney has to offer, this place hits the mark.

  Location was fantastic. Has a great local bar just next door. Plus, while we had issues with lack of lighting, Joshua was kind enough to come himself and also send the electrician. Also helped with locating a pair of missing jeans after we had checked out.
  
  What could be improved: We went during the busiest possible time, but the place was rather overpriced. Also, one bathroom-cum-toilet and one stand-alone toilet for a place with four rooms does not help. And, the place could do with some upkeep — musty smell, cockroaches, unkempt backyard and non-functional lights. Kitchen can be better equipped with things like bottle opener, scissors and mop.

  Proximity to the ICC and walking distance to everything this location offers. Pub on corner for dinner is a lovely bonus.

  Location excellent and Free parking is attractive. Sleeps up to 8 people in the city for approx $1000.
  However property was underwhelming. Stayed with 2 toddlers and felt unsafe as bannister railings were missing on 3rd flight of stairs.
  
  What could be improved: Carpets are grotty. Not suitable for elderly people. Not suitable for small children. No top sheets on beds. Too hot for comfortable sleeping. 1 washer provided for 7 people. 1 internal bathroom, 1 toilet in back shed. Lights in top bedroom and 4th flight of stairs do not work. Noisy aircon in top bedroom. Fireplaces still had ash mess and bottle tops. Suitable for student accomodation.
