Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Bondi places over the years, and this StayBay unit on Curlewis Street hit that sweet spot I’m always hunting for – close enough to feel the beach vibe but far enough from Campbell Parade to actually get some sleep. Unit 6 sits in one of those classic Bondi apartment blocks, nothing fancy from the outside, but honestly that’s part of what I loved about it. You’re getting a proper local experience, not some sanitized hotel bubble.

The unit itself is what I’d call genuinely liveable – and I mean that in the best way. The kitchen actually has everything you need (I cooked breakfast most mornings), the living space doesn’t feel cramped even when you’ve got beach gear everywhere, and the bedroom stays surprisingly cool even during those brutal February afternoons. What really sold me was the little details that someone clearly thought through: decent water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually work, and – this might sound minor but trust me – proper hangers in the wardrobe. The whole place feels like someone’s well-maintained home rather than a rental that’s been stripped of personality.

Location-wise, you’re about a three-minute walk to the beach, which means you can pop back for a shower between morning surf and afternoon sun without it being a whole production. Curlewis Street itself is pretty quiet – mostly locals walking their dogs and heading to work – but you’re literally around the corner from Hall Street where you’ve got that excellent coffee spot (Five Dock Coffee) and the IGA for groceries. I actually preferred this to being right on the main drag because you avoid the weekend crowds stumbling past at 2am, but you’re still close enough to walk to Icebergs for dinner or hit up the Sunday markets. The bus stop for getting into the city is right there too, though honestly, once you’re settled in this part of Bondi, you might not want to leave. The whole setup just works – you get that proper beachside holiday feeling without the tourist trap nonsense, and the StayBay team was refreshingly straightforward with check-in and everything else.

  What could be improved: The unit is right across the road from some bars and close to the police station and it is extraordinarily loud until about 2:30am. Partying, police etc we basically had no sleep,
