Hotel Description
You know what? I walked past Edgecliff Lodge Motel probably a hundred times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention on New South Head Road – tucked between the usual strip of cafes and shops – but there’s something refreshingly straightforward about it that I actually appreciated.
The thing about staying here is you’re literally a two-minute walk from Edgecliff Station, which means you can be in the city in about eight minutes or catch the train down to Bondi Junction without dealing with Sydney traffic (trust me on this one). But here’s what I really liked – you’re far enough from the main Double Bay chaos that you can actually sleep at night, yet close enough to wander down to the harbor for a morning coffee at one of those overpriced but admittedly gorgeous waterfront spots. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re motel rooms, but clean ones with decent air conditioning that actually works. I mean, the décor isn’t going to win any awards – think standard motel aesthetic with maybe a slight refresh sometime in the last decade – but the beds are comfortable and the shower has proper water pressure, which is honestly more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed in Sydney.
What really sold me though was how genuine the whole experience felt. The staff actually seem to care about whether you’re sorted, and they know the area well enough to give you proper recommendations (not just the tourist traps). Parking is included, which saves you about thirty bucks a day compared to most Sydney hotels, and there’s a little courtyard area that’s surprisingly peaceful for being right on a main road. I stayed during a busy weekend in summer and while you can hear some traffic, it’s not the kind of noise that keeps you awake – more like that gentle Sydney hum you get used to. The walk to Double Bay’s shopping and restaurants takes maybe ten minutes, and if you’re feeling ambitious, you can actually walk to the harbor foreshore through some pretty decent residential streets. Look, it’s not luxury – it’s a solid 3-star motel that knows exactly what it is and does it well. For the price point and location, especially if you’re someone who wants to explore both the eastern suburbs and the city without breaking the bank on accommodation, it’s actually a pretty smart choice.
