Duffotel Paddington LUXE 1-Bedroom Apartment
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along Oxford Street, and honestly? Most of them are either overpriced tourist traps or cramped boxes that barely fit a bed. But this Duffotel spot in Paddington – it’s actually different. When I walked into this 1-bedroom apartment, my first thought was “wait, I can actually unpack here.” There’s proper space to spread out, which if you’ve ever tried to live out of a suitcase in Sydney for more than a few days, you’ll know is basically gold.
The location is what really gets me though. You’re right on Oxford Street, which sounds hectic until you realize you’re in the good part of Paddington – not the crazy nightlife stretch closer to the city. I mean, you can still hear the buses rumbling past in the morning, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than the chaos you get near Hyde Park Barracks. What’s brilliant is that Paddington Markets are literally a Saturday morning stroll away, and if you’re into that whole browsing-through-vintage-finds-and-overpriced-smoothies thing, you’re set. The cafés along the side streets – especially if you duck down toward Five Ways – are where the locals actually go, not the obvious tourist spots.
The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there, you know? The kitchen’s got proper counter space (I made pasta one night and didn’t have to use the bed as extra prep area), and the bedroom’s got blackout curtains that actually work. That might sound minor, but when you’re dealing with jet lag and Sydney’s ridiculously bright mornings, trust me on this one. The bathroom’s decent sized too – I could dry my hair without elbowing the shower door. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that awkward hovering-around-the-lobby-at-2pm situation. The whole building’s got this quiet, residential feel that’s honestly kind of rare for Oxford Street accommodation.
Here’s the thing about staying in Paddington – you’re close enough to walk into the city when you feel like it (about 25 minutes to Circular Quay if you’re not dawdling), but far enough out that you’re not surrounded by backpackers and tour groups 24/7. The buses run constantly, but there’s also something nice about just wandering through the terrace house streets in the evening. It feels like you’re staying in actual Sydney, not tourist Sydney. And parking – well, it’s street parking, so weekends are easier than weekdays, but that’s just Sydney reality. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just genuinely comfortable and well-located. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
