Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Duffotel Paddington LUXE on Oxford Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The building itself is pretty standard for this stretch of Paddington, but once you step inside, it’s actually quite a pleasant surprise. The lobby has this warm, contemporary feel without being too stuffy or trying too hard to be boutique-y, you know? And the staff at check-in were genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions like at some of the bigger chain hotels around here.

What really won me over was the attention to detail in the rooms – I mean, someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The bed linens were that perfect weight where you don’t wake up sweating at 3am (which honestly happens more than it should in Sydney hotels), and there’s actually enough power outlets near the bed for your phone and laptop without having to unplug the bedside lamp. The bathroom had proper water pressure too, which… well, if you’ve stayed in enough places around Paddington, you’ll know that’s not always a given. The neighborhood itself is brilliant for walking around – you’re right in the thick of the Victorian terraces and those tree-lined streets that make this area so charming. Plus, you can easily walk to Centennial Park if you need to escape the city buzz for a bit, or head down to the weekend markets at Paddington Markets which are just a few minutes away.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid 4-star hotel that delivers on comfort and service without the pretentious attitude you sometimes get at places trying to punch above their weight. The restaurant downstairs serves decent food (their breakfast is actually worth getting up for), and the staff seemed to know the area well enough to give proper recommendations, not just the usual tourist traps. The soundproofing is pretty good too, which matters when you’re right on Oxford Street – I could hear the occasional bus going by, but it wasn’t the kind of thing that kept me awake. Parking can be a bit tricky around here, but they’ve got arrangements with nearby spots, and honestly, being this close to public transport means you probably won’t need a car much anyway. The whole experience just felt… comfortable, I guess. Like staying at a well-run place where people actually care about doing their job properly.

  • Really enjoyed it. A suggestion. Leave a folder with places to visit/places of interest, cafes, restaurants nearby e – Andrew from Australia – 18 May 2025 (9/10)

Close to where we were visiting

What could be improved: Only that there was only one towel each and we were there for 3 days. Clothes dryer didn’t dry the towels when washed. No coffee pods that fitted the coffee machine.

  • Good location – Elizabeth from New Zealand – 6 July 2025 (7/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Entrance and stairwell really dirty. Coffee machine didn’t work, and we would have liked a blanket for the bed as was cold.
