Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Cozy M Hostel on Bourke Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Woolloomooloo isn’t exactly where most tourists end up staying, but that’s actually part of what makes this place interesting. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Royal Botanic Gardens and maybe ten minutes to Circular Quay if you cut through the Domain, but you’re staying in this quirky little pocket that feels more like actual Sydney than the tourist bubble.

The hostel itself sits right in the heart of Woolloomooloo – and yes, everyone struggles with that name at first – but locals just call it “the Loo” anyway. What struck me most was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood. I mean, they didn’t just point me toward the Opera House like every other place does. They told me about the pie cart that’s been parked at the top of the street since forever (honestly, best late-night snack you’ll find), and how Wednesday mornings there’s this little farmers market tucked behind the naval base that hardly anyone knows about. The building itself has that slightly worn-in feeling that somehow works – it’s clean and comfortable, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not.

You know what really sold me though? The common areas actually feel… lived in. There’s this main lounge where people hang out in the evenings, and it’s got these mismatched chairs that are way more comfortable than they look. I ended up spending hours there just chatting with other travelers, which honestly doesn’t always happen at hostels – sometimes those spaces feel forced, you know? The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which matters when you’re trying to save money and cook your own meals. Plus, being on Bourke Street means you’re walking distance to Coles for groceries, and there’s this Vietnamese place around the corner that does incredible pho for about twelve bucks. The rooms are what you’d expect for a 3.5-star hostel – nothing fancy, but the beds are solid, there’s decent storage, and the showers actually have good water pressure (trust me, this matters more than you think).

Only real downside is that weekend nights can get a bit noisy – you’re close enough to Kings Cross that you’ll hear people heading home from their nights out, but it’s not unbearable, and weekdays are pretty quiet. Check-in was smooth, and they’re flexible about luggage storage if you arrive early or need to leave bags after checkout. What I appreciated most was that this place gets the balance right – it’s social enough that you can meet people if you want to, but you’re not forced into some artificial hostel scene if you just want to crash after exploring the city.

  • Very good – Luca from Italy – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Location is perfect, bus super close to go everywhere and at walkable distance from most of the main attractions. Kitchen is big and clean so we have been able to cook our food for several days, very useful. Included breakfast abundant and very nice!

What could be improved: Nothing, had no problem.

  • Excellent, and we did everything we needed to do and rested well. – Simon from Australia – 16 April 2025 (8/10)

it is walking distance from KIngs Cross Station – about 5minutes for me, the kitchen was always clean and had the simple breakfast I expected – juice, milk tea, coffee, cereal, eggs, toast etc.

What could be improved: Nothing really that was under their control.

  • Good – Siyambalapitiya from Australia – 23 March 2025 (7/10)

Room and bathroom is very clean. Staff is very friendly and supportive. Good hospitality.
Nice to visit again. Can recommend.

  • Great little hostel in a quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to public transport – Nikkisha from United States – 13 February 2025 (9/10)

I liked the location. It was a nice quiet neighborhood and was easy for me to walk to the train and also so quick if I opted to take an uber to get back from the circular quay. The breakfast was good. I only got to eat it one time because the first and last day I left before breakfast started. I was nervous about the shared bathroom but never had to wait and it was kept quite clean. I did appreciate the sink in my room to wash face, brush teeth or heat up some water for coffee or tea. I also liked the keypads for entry into hotel and also the room.

What could be improved: I really enjoyed my stay but maybe have some grab and go breakfast items set up for early risers. That is really the only thing that would have been nice.

  • Perfect stay for a short trip – Denise from New Zealand – 12 February 2025 (8/10)

The location was perfect! In a quiet living area but just a 15 minute walk to the Sydney Opera House etc. The room is small but has everything you need, the shared bathrooms were clean.
The staff was nice and helpful and the included continental breakfast was a bonus.

What could be improved: Due to not enough staff, the breakfast "buffet" didn't always get refilled right away, but if you asked about it they would fill it up again.

  • Superb – Wega from United Kingdom – 2 February 2025 (9/10)

Great place in the heart of Sydney that's close to many attractions. The check-in after hours was super easy with the codes provided. The room was exactly as advertised with a super comfy bed, its own wash basin and a nice table for working or keeping your luggage on. Towels, hairdryer and shampoo and conditioner were provided, which was a great extra. I would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: The door lets light from the hallway in which is on all night, so I needed a sleeping mask. The walls are also a bit thin, so bring earplugs.

  • Great stay in Sydney! – Lara from Netherlands – 6 December 2024 (9/10)

Great spacious rooms, clean facilities. Good location in the city!

What could be improved: Toilet paper ran out very quickly and there was no way to replace it. Male bathroom light was not working

  • Very good – John from Luxembourg – 19 October 2024 (8/10)

    Perfect location.
    Great breakfast.
Can store own food in shared kitchen

What could be improved: Need to recycle plastic waste from kitchen
