So I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Coogee Beachside Sanctuary 4 on Arden Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. But stepping inside? That’s when this place really shows its personality. The lobby has this relaxed, almost residential vibe that immediately made me feel like I was staying at a well-appointed friend’s place rather than some cookie-cutter hotel. You know what I mean – the kind of place where the staff actually remembers your name after day one.

The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you know Coogee at all. Arden Street is just far enough back from the main Coogee Bay Road chaos that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your windows, but you’re still a solid two-minute walk to the beach. I mean, you can literally smell the salt air from the rooms, and there’s something about waking up to that ocean breeze that just hits different. The nearby Coogee Bay Hotel gets pretty lively on Friday nights (fair warning if you’re a light sleeper), but the double-glazed windows actually do their job. What really sold me was how easy it was to grab morning coffee at the little spot around the corner, then wander down to the rock pools before the day-trippers arrive – that’s prime Coogee timing right there.

The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully put together rather than just functional. Mine had this lovely natural light that made the space feel bigger than it probably was, and the bed was one of those ones where you actually sink in a bit – not too soft, not too firm. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for Sydney standards, with water pressure that didn’t make me question my life choices. I particularly loved the little balcony area where I could sit with a glass of wine and watch the evening light hit the water. Parking was straightforward too, which honestly deserves a mention because anyone who’s driven around Coogee knows it can be a nightmare. The whole experience felt effortless in a way that’s harder to achieve than it looks – from check-in to checkout, nothing felt rushed or impersonal. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay, especially when you realize you’re walking distance from both the Gordon’s Bay walking track and some genuinely good fish and chips that aren’t tourist traps.
