Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Sydney’s eastern beaches, and Coogee Beachside Bliss 6 on Arden Street actually surprised me – in a good way. You know how sometimes you book a place and cross your fingers it’s not terrible? Well, this wasn’t one of those times. The moment I walked in, there was this relaxed coastal vibe that felt authentic, not like someone just threw some seashells around and called it beachy. The building itself sits pretty well back from the main Coogee Bay Road chaos, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to sleep off a long flight or just want some peace after a day in the sun.
What I really loved about this place – and I mean genuinely loved – was how it strikes this perfect balance between being close enough to everything but far enough from the madness. You’re literally a three-minute walk to Coogee Beach, and I’m talking the good part of the beach, not where all the tour groups congregate. The local IGA is right there when you need supplies, and there’s this little Thai place called Bopp & Tone just down the road that does incredible pad thai (trust me on this one). The apartment itself has that lived-in comfort that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel room. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent pans – you’d be amazed how rare that is in vacation rentals. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because the balcony gets this gorgeous morning light, and honestly, why wouldn’t you want to start your day like that?
The whole area has this neighbourhood feel that I think a lot of visitors miss when they just stick to Bondi or Manly. Coogee’s got character, you know? There’s the old-school fish and chips shop, the weekend markets, and if you’re into swimming – which, let’s face it, you probably are if you’re staying here – the ocean pool at the southern end of the beach is absolutely perfect for laps. The staff were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They actually knew the area and could point you toward the good stuff. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak summer (December-February), but there’s usually something within a block or two if you’re patient. The 8.2 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy or over-the-top, it’s just really good at what it does. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially when you’re in a place as naturally beautiful as Coogee.
