Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve walked past this little gem on Vicar Street probably a dozen times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not booking it sooner. The Coogee Bay Boutique Hotel sits right in the heart of Coogee – and I mean right in it, not some tourist’s idea of “close to everything.” You’re literally a two-minute stroll to the beach, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the cafes and spots that locals actually frequent.

The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate – it’s not trying too hard to be flashy, but everything feels thoughtfully designed. My room had these gorgeous timber floors that creaked just slightly when you walked across them (in a charming way, not annoying), and the windows actually opened properly, which is rarer than you’d think in hotels these days. The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole, and the linens had that crisp, expensive feel. What really got me though was the attention to little details – proper hangers in the closet, decent water pressure in the shower, and a coffee machine that actually makes good coffee, not that watery hotel stuff.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Coogee like someone who lives here rather than just passing through. You’re a stone’s throw from Coogee Beach, sure, but you’re also right near some of the best breakfast spots in the area – there’s this incredible little place called Funky Pies just around the corner that does amazing coffee and pastries. The coastal walk to Bondi starts practically at your doorstep, and if you’re into that whole sunrise swimming thing (which I definitely got into during my stay), you can literally roll out of bed and be at the beach in under five minutes. Parking can be a bit tricky on weekends – the street spots fill up fast with beachgoers – but the hotel staff gave me some solid local tips about where to find spaces. The neighborhood gets lively on Friday and Saturday nights, but it’s more of a pleasant hum than anything disruptive. I actually found it kind of nice falling asleep to the distant sound of people having a good time. The staff here really seem to know their stuff about the area too – they pointed me toward Gordon’s Bay for snorkeling, which I never would have found on my own and turned out to be absolutely incredible. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentic to Coogee rather than just another beachside hotel, this is it.

  • Perfection! – Stephanie from Australia – 18 May 2025 (10/10)

The room fit outs and decor are exceptional. Very large room given the location is a busy city hub. Beautiful views, free bottles of water easily available, staff were professional and friendly, location is perfect. Beach towels available. Lovely lounge area, coffee bar and desk in room. Spacious reception area with comfortable seating. Chilled atmosphere. Just beautiful.

What could be improved: There is nothing I didn’t like about my stay!

  • Friendly, welcoming and comfortable hotel. Love that it is family-owned – Christine from Australia – 16 May 2025 (8/10)

GOOD LOCATION, WELL-APPOINTED, COMFORTABLE BED AND PILLOWS

What could be improved: THE TOILETRIES – WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO STOCK TOILETRIES THAT DON’T HAVE THE TINY SILVER FOIL SEAL? THEY ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY BAD (CHOKING HAZARD FOR MARINE LIFE). AND ALSO INCONVENIENTLY DIFFICULT TO OPEN
