Sometimes straightforward is exactly what you need, and this little place on Railway Parade actually delivers on that promise. I mean, it really is three minutes to Burwood Station – I timed it because I’m that kind of person, and it was two minutes and forty-seven seconds from the front door to the platform. Perfect if you’re one of those people who cuts it close with train times (guilty as charged).

The apartment itself sits in this surprisingly quiet pocket despite being so close to the station. I was expecting constant train noise, but honestly, you barely notice it once you’re inside. The building’s got that solid, no-nonsense feel that a lot of these older Sydney apartment blocks have – nothing fancy, but built to last. Inside, it’s clean and functional in that IKEA-meets-practical-living way. The bedroom’s got decent blackout curtains, which I appreciated since I’m a light sleeper, and the little kitchenette has everything you actually need rather than everything you might theoretically want. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed – you’re not going to be doing any elaborate getting-ready routines, but for a quick shower and brush your teeth situation, it works perfectly fine.

What I really appreciated was how genuinely local the area feels. You’re not in some tourist bubble here – this is actual residential Burwood, with the Chinese bakery down the street (their pork buns are ridiculous, by the way) and the little corner shop that somehow stocks everything you forgot to pack. Westfield Burwood is literally a five-minute walk if you need proper shopping, but I found myself just wandering around the neighborhood more than I expected. The Turkish place on Burwood Road does this lamb dish that had me coming back twice, and there’s a decent coffee cart near the station that knows how to make a proper flat white. Parking’s street parking, which can be a bit of a hunt during busy times, but honestly, with the train connections being so good, I barely used my car after the first day. You can be in the city in about twenty minutes, Strathfield’s one stop away, and if you’re heading to other parts of Sydney, Burwood’s genuinely one of those underrated transport hubs that makes everything else accessible without the premium you’d pay closer to the CBD.
