You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name makes it sound like some cramped apartment above a seafood joint, but honestly, it’s actually a really solid two-bedroom house tucked away on John Street in Pyrmont. I mean, the location alone is pretty incredible – you’re literally three minutes from the fish market (which, by the way, is perfect for those early morning salmon runs if you’re into that sort of thing), and the Star Casino is right there if you want to lose some money after dinner.

The house itself has this comfortable, lived-in feel that’s way better than your typical hotel room. The bedrooms are properly sized – not those shoebox situations you sometimes get in Sydney – and there’s actually space to spread out your stuff without tripping over suitcases. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so close to everything. Pyrmont’s got this weird magic where you can walk to Darling Harbour in ten minutes, but the residential streets stay surprisingly peaceful. The kitchen’s well-equipped too, which is clutch because eating out for every meal in Sydney will bankrupt you faster than a night at the casino next door.

Here’s the thing about staying in Pyrmont that most tourists don’t realize – you’re positioned perfectly between the city and all the waterfront action, but you’re not paying those insane Circular Quay prices. From John Street, you can walk to the Convention Centre, catch the light rail into the CBD, or just stroll down to the harbor for those sunset shots everyone’s always posting. The fish market early in the morning is actually an experience – controlled chaos with the best coffee you’ll find in the area, and watching the vendors do their thing is pretty entertaining. Plus, having two bedrooms means you can actually travel with friends or family without everyone getting on each other’s nerves, which… let’s be honest, happens more than we’d like to admit. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, just genuinely comfortable and smart about what matters to people who actually travel.

  The host was very friendly and welcoming. The house is in an excellent location, situated on a quiet street. It’s just a 2-minute walk to the casino and very close to the Sydney Fish Market. The area also features charming, boutique-style restaurants, perfect for family outings. The house itself was very clean and tastefully decorated—small yet exquisite. I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Sydney!

  – Pleasant & responsive host who sought to assist with luggage storage and to remediate the problem (ie need for floor cleaning)
  – Appreciated 2nd toilet; supply of cleaning / household products & some basic pantry items; good appliances.
  
  What could be improved: – Floors did not appear to have been vaccuumed, swept or mopped since previous guests
  – The property appears tired & in need of upkeep. The need for general maintenance (eg cleaning of front patio / entry; the need for a thorough spring clean; damaged bedroom door) detracts from the property's appearance & our sense of welcome & comfort
  – Provision of a printed information document in the apartment including expectations regarding checkout would be helpful
