But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The location on Herring Road is honestly pretty brilliant if you know the area. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Macquarie Centre – and I mean the real walking time, not that optimistic “five minutes” that usually means fifteen when you’re dragging luggage. More importantly though, you’re right there on the train line, so getting into the city is actually straightforward without dealing with Sydney’s traffic nightmare. The apartment itself feels genuinely new (not just “recently renovated” new), with those floor-to-ceiling windows that make the whole space feel way bigger than it probably is. The kitchen’s got everything you’d actually want to use – proper coffee machine, decent-sized fridge, and enough counter space that you won’t be doing that awkward dance around each other if you’re traveling with someone.

What really won me over though was the attention to the little stuff that most places completely ignore. The wifi actually works properly (I was video calling without any issues), there’s proper blackout curtains so you can sleep past sunrise, and – this might sound weird but hear me out – the shower has excellent water pressure. After bouncing around Sydney hotels where you’re lucky if the shower manages more than a gentle sprinkle, this was honestly refreshing. The bedrooms are spacious enough that you’re not living on top of each other, and there’s actual storage space for your stuff instead of just a tiny closet that barely fits a jacket. The whole building’s quiet too, which is sort of amazing considering you’re so close to the shopping centre and train station. I mean, you’ll hear the occasional train if you’re really listening for it, but it’s not one of those places where you’re jolted awake every twenty minutes.

The area itself is pretty suburban Sydney – nothing particularly Instagram-worthy, but it’s got that lived-in feel that’s way more comfortable than staying in some tourist bubble. There’s a decent IGA just down the road for groceries, and honestly, having Macquarie Centre right there means you’re covered for pretty much anything you might need. Plus, if you’re into the whole shopping thing, it’s actually one of the better centres in Sydney – not as chaotic as the city ones but with all the shops you’d want. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Sydney will tell you is basically a miracle. The whole experience just felt… easy, I guess? Like staying at a friend’s place who actually has their life together, rather than camping out in a hotel room that’s seen better decades.
