So I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Botanik Apartment Hotel on Elizabeth Street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this slightly gritty stretch of Surry Hills, and from the outside it looks… well, pretty understated. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about it.

The thing about this place is it actually gets what travelers want – space to spread out without feeling like you’re camping in someone’s spare room. These aren’t your typical cramped hotel boxes. I’m talking proper apartment-style setups with kitchenettes that you’ll actually use (the stovetop works perfectly, unlike half the places I’ve stayed). The 4-star rating feels right – it’s polished where it matters but doesn’t have that sterile luxury hotel vibe that makes you afraid to touch anything. And honestly, that 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days.

What really won me over was the location, though most people don’t realize how perfect it is until they’re walking around. You’re literally a five-minute stroll from Central Station – and I mean a proper easy walk, not one of those “five minutes if you’re an Olympic sprinter” situations. But here’s the thing locals know: Elizabeth Street in this part of Surry Hills is where the real Sydney happens. You’ve got these amazing little cafes tucked between vintage shops and record stores, plus you’re close enough to Crown Street that you can hit up those legendary brunch spots without dealing with the touristy Circular Quay crowds. The neighborhood gets a bit quiet at night (which I loved for sleeping), but it’s never dead-quiet or sketchy.

The staff seemed to actually live in Sydney, not just work there – they’d give you directions to places that weren’t in guidebooks and knew which train lines were running late. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no upselling or forced small talk. The rooms themselves have this clean, modern feel without being too trendy. Good water pressure in the showers, decent blackout curtains, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine when it kicks in at 2 AM. I stayed during a particularly hot February and slept perfectly.

The only minor thing? Parking can be a bit of a hunt on weekends, but honestly, you’re so close to everything you probably won’t need a car much anyway. The building itself is quiet enough that you won’t hear your neighbors’ entire life stories through the walls, which is more than I can say for some of the flashier places in The Rocks. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like temporarily living in Sydney rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

    Me and my family is very happy staying at Botanik Apt, definitely we will recommend to our family and friends, so comfort and cozy, nearby central station and easy to reach Bus going anywhere.

    We booked 3BR, room pretty spacious, complete facilities to enable you to cook and do laundry.
    I would definitely come back when we travel to Sydney again. The Warm host, Suzanne welcoming us when we arrived and very helpful when we left something in the Apt. Highly appreciated.

    What could be improved: Just suggestion to also provide broom or floor vacuum that will be helpful for long stay.

    The apartment is fully equipped for a vacation, including a washing machine, dryer, and a kitchen with all necessary utensils. It has a modern and clean design. The location is relatively convenient, near a bus stop and a 10-minute walk to the central station. The price is reasonable.

    What could be improved: If possible, I have a small suggestion: I find the apartment very beautiful and well-equipped, but it only has a small mirror in the bathroom. It would be great to have a mirror in the bedroom, preferably a full-length one. Another minor suggestion is that while everything is complete, including kitchen paper towels, there are no napkins or indoor slippers.

    The apartment was clean, modern and amazing. Had almost everything we needed, just missing the cooking oil. It had washing powder, dishwasher tablets and kitchen cleaning supplies. The bed was super comfortable and a good sized kitchen for 2 of us. The location is great. 10 minutes from central station and the nearest Woolworths for groceries. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance too. Bathroom was really nice and spacious

    What could be improved: Down side to the apartment was the hallway light that comes in from the little window next to the entrance. I had to block it with some pillows as it floods light onto the apartment and you need to keep the bedroom door open so the A/C keeps you cool while you sleep.

    The location is very convenient, with bus stops and a light rail station nearby. It's also within walking distance to the central station. The overall space is very comfortable, and the manager is very friendly and promptly assists with any issues. They even thoughtfully converted one of the double beds into two single beds to accommodate guests' needs flexibly! Highly recommended 🙂

    The flat was spacious enough for my family of 3 and it was really clean. The white goods were good brands! nice balcony! convinient location! hospitable and responsive host, I asked for earlier drop off my luggage and extra bed sheets and had positive responses for both (thanks Suzanne)!
