Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Bondi accommodations, and honestly? The Bondi Surf Cottage on Hastings Parade is one of those places that just gets it right. You know what I mean – it’s not trying too hard to be fancy, but everything feels thoughtfully put together. The moment you walk in, there’s this relaxed coastal vibe that actually feels authentic rather than forced. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach, so you can hear the waves from your room, which is pretty much exactly what you want when you’re staying in Bondi.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to capture that classic Australian beach cottage feel without making it feel dated or kitschy. The rooms have this sort of weathered charm – think whitewashed walls, natural timber accents, and those big windows that let in all that gorgeous Sydney light. You’ll find yourself leaving the windows open most of the time because the ocean breeze is just perfect (well, except maybe during those crazy summer storms, but even then it’s kind of dramatic and fun). The beds are actually comfortable too, which honestly can’t be said for every beachside place – I think they understand that after a full day of swimming and walking along the coastal path, you really need a proper night’s sleep.

The location is absolutely spot-on if you want to experience Bondi like a local rather than just another tourist. You’re right there on Hastings Parade, which means you can duck down to the beach whenever you feel like it, but you’re also close enough to walk to Hall Street for decent coffee and those little cafes that aren’t completely overrun. I actually found myself grabbing breakfast from the local spots and eating it on the cottage’s little outdoor area – there’s something special about having your flat white while watching the early morning surfers do their thing. The Bondi to Coogee walk starts practically at your doorstep, and if you’re into that sort of thing, the Sunday markets at Bondi Beach are just a pleasant stroll away.

Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak season (let’s be honest, it’s Bondi), but the staff actually gave me some insider tips about the quieter streets nearby where you can usually find a spot. They seem to really know the area, which makes a difference when you’re trying to navigate one of Sydney’s busiest beach suburbs. The whole experience feels more like staying at a friend’s place who happens to have excellent taste and a prime location. It’s got that 9.4 rating for good reason – it’s the kind of place where the small details add up to something pretty special, and you find yourself already planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

  It was a beautiful cottage with fabulous decor, spacious and well laid out for a family of 4. It had a fantastic Bondi feel.
