Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Blue Haven Retreat on Stoney Creek Road, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address sounds pretty suburban (and it is), but this little 4-star gem actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away in what feels like a proper residential pocket of Beverly Hills, which I mean… it’s not the flashy Beverly Hills you’re thinking of, but Sydney’s version has its own charm. You’re about 20 minutes southwest of the city center, and honestly, that distance works in your favor here.

The whole place has this relaxed, almost boutique-y vibe that you don’t always get with mid-tier hotels. I stayed in room 208 (hence the name, I’m guessing?), and the first thing that hit me was how quiet it was – no traffic noise, no construction, just the occasional bird. The room itself was well thought out, nothing fancy but everything worked properly, which you know what, that’s half the battle these days. The shower pressure was actually decent, and the bed was firm enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a marshmallow all night. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to get proper rest.

What really sets this place apart though is the staff’s local knowledge – they steered me toward this little café about a 10-minute walk away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and they knew exactly which bus routes would get me into the CBD without the tourist markup of constant Ubers. The breakfast spread was solid (proper coffee, thank god), and they’ve got this small courtyard area where you can actually sit outside in the morning without feeling like you’re on display. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Sydney will appreciate – no circling the block three times or feeding meters every hour.

The 8.4 rating makes sense to me. It’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers on what it promises without the usual hotel nonsense. The Wi-Fi actually worked throughout the building, check-in was quick, and the whole place felt clean without that overwhelming chemical smell some hotels have. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to be close to the city but not right in the thick of it. It’s the kind of place where you can decompress after a long day of sightseeing without breaking the bank or dealing with crowds in the lobby.

  It was nicely appointed, clean, convenient and had everything we needed.

  Large kitchen, comfortable & spacious! Great for extended family group, with 3 bathrooms & 4 bedrooms could have accommodated up to 3 couples + 2 children + a baby. Gloucester Rd was quiet with adequate parking.

  I liked how it had everything we needed for our short stay. it was handy to a mall and other attractions and close to the airport.
  
  What could be improved: It is situated on a busy street so if you’re sleeping in the master bedroom, the noise from traffic might be an issue. By the 2nd day, we didn’t notice it so it didn’t keep us up at all.

  Very large space to host my family which included 5x children.
  
  What could be improved: It was the small things that actually impacted our stay there such as there was a total of 8x people and we only had 8x towels for the week we were there, there was only 1x tea towel, we didn’t have access to additional sheets or linen, having the signs of not flushing toilet paper down the toilet was odd to see in Sydney but we were reassured by the host, and it wasn’t a fully stocked kitchen but sufficient for little bit of cooking as opposed to making a family meal at home. The location is beautiful, peaceful, and sufficient for a short stay but these small things actually make a deal with a large number of people booked in.
  I would recommend this Airbnb though.
