You know what caught me off guard about the Balmoral Cabana? The name makes it sound like some beachside shack, but this is actually a seriously well-appointed spot tucked into one of Sydney’s most exclusive pockets. I mean, we’re talking Mosman here – where the harbor views cost more than most people’s cars and the locals genuinely do wear boat shoes unironically.

The terrace is honestly the star of the show, and I’m not just saying that because it’s in the name. It’s genuinely huge – like, big enough that you could host a proper dinner party out there without anyone feeling cramped. Morning coffee with those Mosman views hits different, especially when you can hear the harbor lapping around below. The walk to Balmoral Beach is barely two minutes (I timed it), and here’s the thing locals know – you’re hitting one of Sydney’s most pristine swimming spots. No crowds like Bondi, no backpackers doing Instagram shoots every five meters. Just families, a few sailboats bobbing around, and water that’s actually swimmable year-round.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a rental property. The kitchen’s actually equipped for cooking – I’m talking proper knives, decent pans, not the usual collection of mismatched garage sale finds. The shower pressure is stellar (honestly, better than my apartment back home), and the bed situation is spot-on for actually sleeping well. Edwards Bay Road itself is pretty quiet, though you’ll get the occasional early morning jogger or dog walker – comes with the territory in this neighborhood. Parking’s not the nightmare you’d expect for this part of Sydney, which is saying something. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the air conditioning takes a while to kick in properly, but with those harbor breezes coming through, you honestly don’t need it most of the time anyway.

The location gives you the best of both worlds – you’re in this incredibly posh, peaceful bubble, but you’re also twenty minutes from the city center if you want to dive into the chaos. Taronga Zoo’s practically next door (you can walk there along the harbor if you’re feeling ambitious), and there’s something pretty magical about falling asleep to the sound of ferry horns in the distance. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the Park Hyatt, but it’s doing everything it promises really, really well. That 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a few days here. It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why people pay Sydney prices to live this close to the water.

  The decor was tasteful and interesting. The shower was great, bed comfy, kitchen well equipped. Overall it was a lovely place to stay, restful and quiet.
  
  What could be improved: Having to park on the road, although we had no trouble getting a spot right opposite the gate. The steep hill to the beach is also inevitable in this part of Sydney.

  What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t like was the killer walk up the hill from the property, we discovered a bus could take us up to spit junction once we purchased an opal card. The bus , train infrastructure was awesome, didn’t feel the need to hire a car
