You know what really struck me about Balmoral Beach Beauty? The name actually undersells it. I mean, yes, it’s beautiful – sitting right on Stanton Road with those leafy Mosman streets all around – but honestly, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something the locals are trying to keep secret.

The first thing you notice walking up is how quiet it gets once you’re off Military Road (and trust me, you’ll appreciate that after dealing with Sydney traffic). The whole Balmoral area has this sort of village feel that’s rare in Sydney – you can actually walk to the beach in about three minutes, and I’m talking about proper Balmoral Beach, not some tiny strip of sand. The hotel itself feels more like a really well-designed boutique place than your typical four-star property. The rooms are spacious in that way that makes you realize how cramped most Sydney accommodations actually are, and the balconies – well, if you get one facing the right direction, you’ll catch glimpses of the harbour through the trees.

What I love about staying here is that you’re in this perfect sweet spot between being properly in Sydney but away from all the tourist chaos. You can grab coffee at one of those little cafes on Beauty Point Road (there’s this one place that does incredible flat whites), walk along the Esplanade when the morning joggers are out, or just sit in Balmoral Park and watch the ferries come and go. The Taronga Zoo is literally across the water – you can see it from parts of the hotel – and getting into the city is actually pretty straightforward once you figure out the bus routes. Parking can be a bit tricky during summer weekends when everyone descends on the beach, but the hotel sorts that out for you. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, which makes a difference when you’re asking about where to eat or whether it’s worth walking to Chowder Bay (it is, by the way, especially at sunset).

I’ll be honest, the 9.8 rating seemed almost too good to be true when I first saw it, but after staying there… it makes sense. It’s not flashy or trying to be something it’s not – it’s just really, really well done. The kind of place where everything works properly, the beds are actually comfortable, and you don’t feel like you’re being nickeled and dimed for every little thing. Plus, there’s something about waking up in Mosman that just feels different from staying in the CBD – calmer, I guess, but still connected to everything that makes Sydney worth visiting.

  The view was exceptional! There was a lovely lawn area with chairs to enjoy the view. Direct private beach access to beautiful safe swimming area. Warm outdoor shower for after swims. Small but fully equipped apartment was very comfortable!
