APX World Square
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Sydney’s CBD, and APX World Square really surprised me in ways I wasn’t expecting. First thing you notice walking up to 2 Cunningham Street is that you’re literally right in the thick of everything – I mean, World Square shopping center is basically your front yard, which honestly makes grabbing groceries or a quick coffee ridiculously easy. The building itself has that modern Australian hotel vibe without trying too hard, you know?
What I actually loved about this place is how it handles the whole “being in the city center” thing. Sure, you’re surrounded by office buildings and the usual CBD buzz, but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated from street noise. I stayed on the 8th floor and could barely hear the traffic on George Street, which is saying something because that road never sleeps. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too – not just going through the motions, but actually knew the area well enough to recommend this little Vietnamese place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, functional, with that slightly corporate feel that’s not unpleasant, just… practical. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom has decent water pressure, which seems like a small thing until you’ve had a few hotels where the shower feels like a gentle mist. What really works here is the location intelligence – you’re a genuine 3-minute walk to Town Hall station, which means you can be at Circular Quay or Bondi Junction without thinking twice about it. And honestly, being this close to World Square means you’ve got everything from late-night convenience stores to proper restaurants right there, plus that whole underground shopping situation when Sydney’s weather gets moody. The hotel’s 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I needed to be in the CBD for work or wanted easy access to literally everything Sydney has to offer.
Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card at check-in.
