Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Sydney, but the Adge Hotel really surprised me in the best way possible. Walking up to 212 Riley Street, you’re right in the thick of Surry Hills – and I mean the good part, not the touristy bit. You’re literally around the corner from Bourke Street Bakery (get the ginger brulee tart, seriously), and about a five-minute walk to those little laneway bars that locals actually frequent. The building itself has this solid, no-nonsense feel that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s warehouse-turned-hip vibe.
What I loved most was how they’ve managed to feel boutique without being pretentious about it. The lobby doesn’t try too hard – clean lines, good lighting, and staff who actually seem to know the area instead of just reading from a script. My room was honestly bigger than I expected for Sydney, with these floor-to-ceiling windows that let in amazing light during the day. The bed was one of those firm-but-not-too-firm situations that actually let me sleep through the night, which is saying something considering I’m usually tossing and turning in hotel beds. You know what really got me though? The little details – proper hangers in the closet, enough power outlets near the bed, and a bathroom that didn’t feel like an airplane lavatory. I mean, it’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it shows they’re thinking about what travelers actually need.
The neighborhood situation is pretty much perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Sydney rather than just visiting it. Crown Street is right there with all those vintage shops and cafes, and you can easily walk to Central Station when you need to get around the city. Honestly, I barely used Ubers because everything felt walkable – even down to Circular Quay if you don’t mind a pleasant 20-minute stroll through the city. The area does get a bit lively on weekend nights (you’re in Surry Hills, after all), but the rooms are well-insulated enough that it never felt disruptive. Check-in was smooth, parking is available if you’re driving (though I’d skip the car in this neighborhood), and the whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? That’s probably why it’s sitting at an 8.4 rating – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it absolutely nails the fundamentals while putting you in one of Sydney’s most authentic neighborhoods.
