Look, I’ll be straight with you – when I first saw the name “5mins Walk to Central Station,” I thought it was just another generic booking site listing trying too hard to sell its location. But honestly? They’re not kidding around. This two-level apartment on Buckingham Street is literally a stone’s throw from Central, and I mean the kind of walk where you can actually hear the trains pulling in from your window (don’t worry, it’s not annoying – more like a comforting city rhythm that you get used to pretty quickly).

The setup is pretty clever, actually. You’ve got this split-level thing going on where the bedrooms are separated enough that you’re not stepping on each other’s toes, which is perfect if you’re traveling with friends or family who have different schedules. The kitchen’s got everything you’d actually need – I mean, you’re in Sydney, so you’ll probably eat out most of the time anyway, but it’s nice knowing you can grab groceries from the IGA down the street and make coffee without having to figure out some weird hotel machine. The bathrooms are clean and modern, though the water pressure in the upstairs one takes a moment to get going – just give it a few seconds and you’re golden.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how connected you feel to the actual city. You know that feeling when you stay somewhere and you’re constantly checking Google Maps to figure out where you are? Yeah, that doesn’t happen here. Chinatown’s practically next door, the light rail stops are everywhere, and if you want to walk to Circular Quay or even the Opera House, it’s totally doable – maybe 20-25 minutes through some pretty decent neighborhoods. Plus, and this is something I only figured out after a couple days, there’s this little laneway behind the building where locals park their bikes, and it’s got this authentic Sydney vibe that you just don’t get in the touristy areas. The building itself is nothing fancy from the outside – typical Sydney apartment block – but inside it’s been updated nicely without feeling sterile or trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy.

The only thing I’d mention is that Friday and Saturday nights can get a bit lively since you’re close to the action, but honestly, if you’re coming to Sydney and expecting complete silence, you’re probably in the wrong city anyway. The neighborhood has character – there’s a Lebanese bakery around the corner that opens ridiculously early, a couple of pubs that locals actually go to, and enough late-night food options that you’ll never go hungry. It’s the kind of place where you start to feel like you’re living in Sydney rather than just visiting it, which is exactly what you want from a longer stay.

  What could be improved: The six table chairs are in need of repair or replacement. Couldn't sit on any of them and we had to eat on the sofa.
