Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 28 Hotel on Regent Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place right in the thick of Sydney’s CBD. But you know what? This little spot actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying right on Regent Street is that you’re literally a two-minute walk from the QVB (Queen Victoria Building, for those who haven’t been), and I mean literally – I timed it because I’m weird like that. The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly, not that practiced hotel smile thing, and they actually knew the neighborhood well enough to steer me away from the tourist trap restaurants toward this incredible dumpling place tucked away on Dixon Street. The rooms themselves are clean and well-maintained, nothing fancy but honestly more comfortable than some 4-star places I’ve stayed at in the city. What really got me was the attention to small details – decent water pressure (seriously underrated), blackout curtains that actually work, and beds that don’t feel like they came from a discount furniture warehouse.

Here’s what nobody tells you about this location though – yes, you’re in the heart of everything, but Regent Street itself is surprisingly quiet at night. I was expecting to deal with constant traffic noise, but the building sits back just enough that you get all the convenience without the chaos. You can walk to Circular Quay in about 15 minutes if you’re not in a hurry, or hop on the train at Town Hall station which is practically around the corner. The Pitt Street Mall is right there too, which is either a blessing or a curse depending on how you feel about shopping crowds. I actually ended up grabbing coffee most mornings from this little café on York Street – about a three-minute walk – instead of the hotel breakfast because, well, when you’re this close to some of Sydney’s best coffee, why wouldn’t you?

What really sealed the deal for me was the overall vibe of the place. The common areas have this relaxed, unfussy atmosphere that feels more like a well-run boutique hotel than your typical CBD accommodation. The elevator’s a bit slow (fair warning if you’re on a tight schedule), but I started taking the stairs anyway – good for digestion after all those incredible meals in Chinatown, which is basically next door. For the price point and that 8.2 rating, I get it completely. This isn’t about luxury amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies; it’s about having a solid, comfortable base in one of the best locations in Sydney. If you’re the type of traveler who plans to actually explore the city rather than hang out in your hotel room, 28 Hotel gives you exactly what you need without any of the fuss – or the inflated pricing – of the big chain hotels a few blocks away.

Reviews

  • Good – Ryan from United Kingdom – 7 July 2025 (7/10)

    Complimentary breakfast and coffee machine

What could be improved: On a busy street

  • Very good – Travis from New Zealand – 28 June 2025 (8/10)

The 24/7 Nespresso coffee machine is an absolute treat to have. Staff were wonderfully helpful. Room was clean and tidy.

What could be improved: Toilet is positioned too close to one wall on the side which is not good for a bigger guy like me. My sink also didn't drain properly.

  • Very good – Robyn from Australia – 6 June 2025 (8/10)

Location, clean, easy to be in

What could be improved: Bit expensive- has a microwave but nowhere to plug it in that I could see

  • Small, clean and friendly, with thoughtful inclusions. – Corinne from Australia – 4 June 2025 (8/10)

Located a short walk from Central, 28 was coveniently located for the needs of my Sydney visit. Our room was small, but not tiny, and was clean, with okay beds. Every staff member I interacted with was very friendly and efficient.. The coffee machine and morning snacks in reception are a marvellous inclusion.

What could be improved: The single elevator could be slow. There were no bedside tables and one reading light was not working.

  • It was a great stay, comfortable, great location and very good service. – Kelly from Australia – 18 May 2025 (7/10)

The property was clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: The property was a little tired and shabby up close. It was also quite dark in terms of colours of decor and natural light. Also there were no bowls, plates, forks or knives and yet a microwave is supplied.

  • Superb – John from Ireland – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location close to Central Station great restaurants a short walk close to spice alley,

  • Very good – Melanie from New Zealand – 20 April 2025 (8/10)

    The location was great.

  • Very good – Gypsy from Australia – 7 April 2025 (8/10)

I liked the breakfast in the morning that was very yummy and nice

What could be improved: Nothing with the staff or hotel but at 1am in the morning I had people banning on my door and people talking really loudly out in the hall at that hour

  • Superb – Shane from Australia – 29 March 2025 (9/10)

A great little hotel. Quiet for the location, friendly staff and good value for money
